A Static IP Address is an address that was manually configured for a device rather than one assigned by the DHCP server. This is called static because it does not change vs. dynamic IP address, which does change. Routers, phones, tablets, desktops, laptops, and any other device that can use IP addresses can be configured to have a stable IP address. This can be done by giving out IP addresses such as routers or manually typing the IP address into the device.
Static IP addresses are designated by Internet Service Providers ISPs. Depending on the nature of your service agreement, your ISP may or may not assign you a static IP address. We’ll explain your options later, but for now suppose a static IP address adds value to your ISP contract.
A static IP address can be IPv4 or IPv6. The key criteria in this case are stable. Some days, we may have a unique static IPv6 address for each gear of the network. We are not there yet. for the moment, we usually use static IPv4 addresses for permanent addresses.

Why Would You Use a Static IP Address?
Another way to think about a static IP address is to think of something like an email address, or a physical home address. These addresses do not change – they are static – and this makes it easier to contact or find someone. Similarly, if you host a website from home, have a file server in your network, use network-powered printers, send ports to a particular device, run a print server, or remote Similarly, a stable IP address is useful when using access programs.
Because a static IP address never changes, other devices always know how to communicate with the device they use. For instance, if a static IP address is set up for a computer in a home network. One more example of a static IP address at work is with DNS servers. DNS servers use static IP addresses so that devices can always be connected to them. If they change frequently, you will need to set up these DNS servers on your router or computer regularly to access the Internet. Static IP addresses are also useful when the device’s domain name is accessible. Computers that connect to the file server in the workspace network, for example, can be set up to use the server’s static IP to always connect to the server instead of their hostname.
Even if the DNS server is faulty, computers can still access the file server because they communicate with it via IP address. With remote access applications such as Windows Remote Desktop, using a static IP address means you can always access this computer with the same address. What changes when using an IP address is that you need to know what changes so that you can use this new address for a remote connection.
Static vs Dynamic: which is Better?
Over there is no perfect IP address solution for all people and all opportunity. Sometimes, it’s best to use a static IP address for a computer or device. Sometimes a dynamic IP address works best. Whether or not dynamic or static IP addresses are best for you also depends on the nature of the connection. A static IP address is related to a business, while a dynamic IP address is appropriate for a home network.

Improved DNS support: Static IP addresses are much easier to configure and manage with DNS servers.
More reliable geolocation services: With static IP addresses, services can match the IP address with its physical location. For example, if you use a local weather service with a static IP address, you are more likely to receive weather reports in the next city instead.

Is it Difficult to Change your IP Address?
If you get your Internet service with the help an ISP or cable company, in most cases they assign you a dynamic IP address.. In your own network, dynamic IP addresses are assigned to your devices by default. Switching to a static IP address is usually not a big problem. You go to the interface of your router, find the device for which you want to assign a static IP address, and then assign it one (usually by typing a number manually).
